Custer State Park

Yesterday we went to Custer State Park for their Open House weekend. Entrance into the park was free and they had a ton of free activities scheduled throughout the day. First we went on a pony ride, which was a big hit for both of the girls. Linnaea's pony was named S'mores, but I don't remember Elise's. Hers was more of a horse anyway. Next we went to a Fire Truck demo and got to play with the fire hose. That was also a lot of fun. Then we drove to Sylvan Lake, the northern tip of the park, and Linnaea fell asleep on the way. Elise and Kevin went to the Amazing Reptile Show (which was actually only 3 snakes, so the girls dubbed it "the snake show") while I stayed in the car with Linnaea. I ended up waking her up so she wouldn't miss touching a snake. Then we walked around the lake, which was absolutely gorgeous. There were a lot of people fishing and the girls were REALLY interested in it, so that may be an endeavor we take on this summer.

Linnaea gets ready to put out some fires.

Elise is ready for some water works.

The fire man shows them the hose.

Elise gets to make a big squirt.

They got to shoot the water at a bottle, knocking it off a tree stump.

They got Smokey the Bear bandanas for a prize.

Elise touches the python.

That lake does look beautiful. I wish we spent more time at the lakes around here. I babysit for a couple of little girls, and one of them looks a lot like Linnaea. I think that might be why I took the job in the first place! I can't believe they're almost 3! They are just big kids now, what fun friends you have. I think Abby's first pony was named Smores too.
